As Senior Vice President, Surety Operations, Steve Calamia has fourteen years of experience in the surety bond business. He joined Roanoke Underwriting when it became the managing general agent for Washington International’s customs bond operation in October 2008. Steve’s primary responsibilities include risk management, internal audit, systems analysis and management of Bond Claims and Underwriting units.
Steve received his CPA designation through Northern Illinois University and started his career in corporate accounting and reinsurance before joining Washington International Insurance Company (which later became a subsidiary of Swiss Re) in 1998. After a few years as Accounting Manager, he assumed responsibility for the underwriting operations of the Customs Bond Unit at Washington International. As Vice President of Customs Surety, Steve was responsible for underwriting policy, risk management, producer relations and the training and development of staff. During this time, Steve was sponsored, interviewed and then accepted in to Swiss Re’s Global Leadership Development Program.
